DR. J. RICHARD STEEDLE, Emeritus
Dr. Richard Steedle is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After graduating with honors from the University of Notre Dame, he attended the
University of Pennsylvania where he received his dental degree with honors, as well as a Masters Degree in Dental Education. While in dental
school, he was admitted to Omicron Kappa Upsilon (the National Dental Honorary Society). He received a Master of Science Degree in Orthodontics
from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a National Research Service Award recipient from the National Institute of
Dental Research and a winner of the Morehead Fellowship in Post-graduate Dentistry.
From 1980 to 1985, Dr. Steedle served as Assistant Professor of Orthodontics at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine. Prior to this, he served as a teaching assistant to the Department of Orthodontics at UNC, studied orthodontics in Oxford, England, and practiced orthodontics in the Oral and Communicative Disorders Program (Cleft Palate Program) at the UNC School of Dentistry.
Since entering private practice, he has achieved board certification as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. (Board certification is the culmination of a 5-10 year process of written and oral examination and an independent review of treated patients. This distinction is held by only 25% of orthodontists nationally.) In addition, he has published several scientific and clinical articles, has spoken both locally and nationally on several orthodontic topics, and is listed in the first edition of Who's Who in Medicine and Dentistry.
Dr. Steedle is married to Dr. Holly Chambers. They enjoy ACC basketball, choral singing and taking care of their two children, Meg and Kevin ("K.C.")
