Growing up in Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. John Hanson learned from his family at a young age the value of hard work and making a difference in the lives of others. He enjoyed finding out how things worked by taking them apart. An engineer at heart, he attended The Ohio State University to study mechanical engineering. After accepting an internship with NASA in Cleveland his junior year, Dr. Hanson transferred to the Fenn College of Engineering at Cleveland State University, where he completed his undergraduate studies with honors, earning a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree. After working with the General Electric Company as a field engineer, he felt that there was something more he wanted to do. It wasn’t until he went to work one day with his wife, a dental hygienist, that he found his true calling - orthodontics.

Dr. Hanson decided to return to school for his dental degree, with the help of his wife who supported the growing family during this time. He graduated with honors at the top 5% of his class at the University of Illinois at Chicago. They moved to Charlotte, where he practiced general dentistry before attending the University of Rochester, Eastman Dental Center, for his certification in Orthodontics. He not only was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society, but was also awarded the American Association of Orthodontists Award.

He and his wife, Michelle, have five children: two girls and three boys. He enjoys his busy family life, outdoor activities, such as fishing and hiking, and home improvement projects. He also enjoys giving back to the community and is actively involved in community activities, his church and Little League sports.
